Cuff bracelets are a fun way to express yourself. You can have them engraved with a personal inscription or have them embellished with favourite or meaningful gemstones. But before you buy online, you need to know how to measure your wrist for a cuff bracelet.
First, measure the circumference of your wrist
You'll need to measure the circumference of your wrist in order to work out your cuff bracelet size. The best way to do this is with a soft measuring tape but if you don't have one available, you can use a narrow strip of paper. Follow the directions below for the paper method.
Measuring your wrist
Wrap the soft tape measure around your wrist, where you would like the cuff bracelet to fit, and take note of the measurement. My sister's wrist is shown in this photo and is being measured just above the wrist bone. It is approximately 6 inches in circumference. Find your measurement to the nearest 1/2 inch.
Using a strip of paper
If you don't have a tailor's tape measure, you can measure your wrist with a piece of paper, a pen or pencil and a ruler. Simply cut a narrow strip of paper (approximately 1cm wide) and wrap it around your wrist. Mark the spot at which the strip meets the end and measure the length with a ruler. This is the circumference of your wrist.
How to convert from centimetres to inches
Our cuff bracelet sizes are in inches but we're aware that some Australian tape measures have centimetres on both sides. If your tape measure or ruler only has centimetres, write down the wrist measurement in centimetres and millimetres (eg 15.2cm) and divide by 2.54. That will give your wrist circumference in inches.
15.2 ➗ 2.54 = 5.98
So, a 15.2cm wrist is approximately 6 inches in circumference.
What size do I order?
Now you have your wrist size, you can choose which size to order. Do you want a loose fit or a snug fit?
If you want a loose fit, that will move around on your wrist, you should order a cuff bracelet that is the same size as your wrist circumference.
If you'd prefer a snug fit, that sits closer to the skin, order the size 1/2 an inch smaller than your wrist measurement.
For example, my sister's wrist in the photo above is approximately 6 inches. If I were making her a loose-fitting cuff bracelet, I would make the size 6 inches. For a snugger fit, I'd make size 5.5".
